I had a terrible experience here and left before my appointment even began. The vet and staff treated my 11-week-old puppy like a walking biohazard because I told them I feed him raw food. I provided this info well before the first appointment in the online registration form, right down to the specific product (Tollden Farms Raw Beginnings), and got no indication that the response in person would be so overwhelmingly negative. I didn't expect the vet to be over the moon about his diet because most vets aren't, but she immediately told one of the vet techs not to touch him and for everyone to put on gloves and gowns specifically because he was "covered in bacteria." Dr. Butler told me anyone who touches him at any time should wear gloves, as if for some reason his commercially available, human-grade food is worse than the goose shit that any dog walking through Riverain Park has absolutely consumed in the past few days.
When I asked if this attitude was going to continue, Dr Butler told me I could find another hospital but she was happy to take him because she'd "make more money if I feed him raw." I don't need a vet who sees my dog as a paycheque waiting to happen. I will be looking for another vet who can at least be professional about my choices for my dog, and who will wear gloves because it's a medical exam and they should, instead of implying it's because he's contaminated somehow.
This was all after some unsolicited training advice that I received within a couple minutes of walking through the front door as well as some truly over the top suggestions from the staff like bathing my puppy once a week to get him used to swimming. I'll just take him swimming and bathe him regularly because he needs baths! At least I got a deposit back, but I honestly would have preferred they just refuse to take him on unless I switch to kibble! It would have saved all of us our time and them a one-star review.

A puppy that eats raw food is actually a biohazard according to public health/ zoonotic experts at the Ontario Veterinary College Read the Worms and Germs blog on raw food. We are advised to "gown and glove" before handling pets eating raw food because common pathogens such as species of E. coli (causative agent HUS which leads to kidney failure) Listeria spp, Salmonella spp and many others are all over the coat of the pet because they lick themselves and generally get covered with bacteria. The statement on "we make more money on pets eating raw food" was facetious - our goal here is prevention and so we immediately address the dangers of raw foods both to our clients and to our patients. These potential clients were rude and swearing in our hospital in front of young people (under 18) and so we are pleased to have them attend another practice.

Absolutely the worst visit by the vet I have ever had. I went in asking about my dogs random bumps on his head and a very different rash on the side of his face. She didn't even look at him and started naming off all these scienific names of skin allergies. First I had to fight with her to at least pretend to look at him and then she started saying there's presence of licking hispaws (which he never had an itching problem or licking) his ears were perfect no smell or discharge. And he is healthy other then the look of the bumps and a patch of missing skin on his face. That's what I went for.
She grabbed him so violently for no reason filled his ears with medication and said his ear infection is soon far past I'll need to get him a ear surgery. And allergy tested $1700.00 and medication or shots for 1.5years $1400.00 . I asked for bathing tips and she took it like "I never bath my dog" . And recommend Gabapentin 300mg . Quantity 50. It's now the next day and his ears have a Grose smell and he won't stop licking his paws. He was up all night itching .

Dr. Butler, Oliver, Victoria, and the rest of the staff here are wonderful. We were with them for 3 years while living in Ottawa with our cat who had several health problems, and we were always very happy with our quality of care.
Dr. Butler's recommendations were always spot-on. Most notably, our cat stopped vomiting after she diagnosed him with seasonal allergies, which we fixed (as per her recommendations) of regular baths in pollen season and crushing over-the-counter antihistamines into his food.
When our cat had significant health problems later in life, Dr. Butler was very practical and compassionate in the face of difficult decisions, such as whether or not to go through with an invasive operation. We felt like she really cared about our quirky little cat, as well as what that might mean financially for us.

I’ve been bringing my dog here since he was a puppy. Dr. Butler gave me the best advice on raising him and getting him used to grooming. They have always been willing to answer my questions over phone or email (for free) with empathy, patience and knowledge. Their prices are very reasonable and always worth the Care my dog has received. They let me borrow a cone for my dog for free and are always so kind to my dog and I. Very highly recommended.

Over the past 10 years I've taken my 2, older, rescue cats (I've had them both since they were kittens) to numerous vets & have literally spent thousands of dollars just to have them get worse than they were before..
So, by the time we got to Dr. Butler, I was more than a little worried & super frustrated with my failure to get them good medical care-- but Dr. Butler's experience, care & expertise completely restored my faith in (& respect for) veterinary medicine.
First impressions were excellent.
Making an appointment was quick & easy, and the clinic itself is easy to get to, comfortable and very clean.
The care provided is outstanding!
Dr. Butler is warm, friendly, professional & extremely competent, and her knowledge & expertise are beyond refreshing and so easily shared! Rarely have I come across a professional who not only has such valuable owner information, but shares it freely in a way that's easy to understand. (I learned more about allergies & asthma in cats in 2 visits than I have in several years.)
The best part about having Dr. Butler as a vet is that my boys are actually feeling better!!
For the first time in years, they're looking & feeling healthier again.. which means I get to worry a lot less & enjoy caring for them and my time with them a lot more. :)
Prices are great, (especially when you consider how she did more for my cats in 1 visit than the previous 10 at other vets) and my only regret is that I didn't find this place sooner.
If you're like me and want the best possible care for your furry family members, I highly recommend Dr. Butler at Vanier Animal Hospital-- she is absolutely amazing!

I thought I would be overwhelmed with information. But she answered all my questions before I even asked them. She just routinely talks about all things that puppy owners would want to talk, so I felt she was so comfortable and experienced, knowing what owners would ask about. I really do believe she isn't doing this for money. She even gave me a tour of her clinic and the facilities.
Sweet doctor took her time with my appointment, happy to have found a vet for my shih tzu.

Just visited Vanier Animal Hospital and have to say Dr. Butler is by far the BEST vet ever! She is so knowledgeable and up to date on all treatments for animals. She truly takes the time to make the animals feel comfortable and offers amazing advice to help them stay healthy. One of my cats has seasonal allergies and she offers treatments that are easily done at home, are totally effective and save me thundreds of dollars and help my cat feel so much better!!. Truly a GEM to visit and my cats love her!! If you care about your animals and want the best possible care at the most reasonable rates, don't take them anywhere but Vanier Animal Hospital! You will be so happy you did and so will your pets.

I have had Kelly look after two of my cats in the last few years. She has been nothing but kind, honest and respectful.
My first cat was 22 years old when I brought her in to the Vanier Animal Hospital. Sadly, it was her first and last visit because she had severe kidney failure. After the appointment, Kelly personally drove me back to my house so that I wouldn't have to walk back home after having her put down.
My next cat was 11 years old with severe stomach issues. She took a lot of care into looking after him and suggesting alternatives to different medicines in order to help me save money. She even met up with me personally to give me some special cat food so that I wouldn't have to bus out to the vet. She also gave me multiple free canned food samples, did a free x-ray to find out if my cat had cancer, and offered to come to my house over the holidays to put my cat to sleep if he went downhill too quickly... after he passed away she personally met me for coffee to give me his ashes and check in on how I was doing.
I would trust Kelly with all my vet needs. I wont go anywhere else.

I've had many veterinarians take care of our cat over the course of years and dr. Butler is certainly in the top tier if not the best. She makes the most sense in her approach to treating animals, highly professionally and with a lot of respect and tenderness.
Some of the other comments posted earlier were critical of pricing and recommended treatments, but I need to say that she was cheaper than other clinics, never pushed a treatment, actually was always recommending against unnecessary/unhelpful actions, didn't charge for some of surgery costs, and - in a very dramatic situation - took care not only of our animal, but also of ourselves. Thank you so much!

Dr. Butler is very professional and is extremely knowledgeable. She provides quality veterinary care and service, but beware of being overcharged or surprised about your bill"
One major issue I had was that Dr. Butler did not tell me how much her services were before performing them, which I'm pretty sure is illegal.
She even said "now, let's see what the damage is"
Now you know your being overcharged.
She is clearly a smart and cunning individual.
This gives her the ability to perform advanced sales tactics (consciously or unconsciously).
Example: She will state the costs associated to medical issues that your animal does not have yet, but that they "could" be at risk for unless preventative measures or treatments are performed.
This encourages you to spend money NOW in fear of having to spend over $2000 or $3000 LATER.
Some would call these fear tactics, others would call this being thorough.
Example 2: Up-Selling ; she may recommend another treatment or drug that is not fully necessary but will "relieve that nasty itch" that "your POOR cat is so clearly suffering from".
Dr. Butler: " I have even seen cats scratch their neck so much they tore open their jugular" followed with something like "and we wouldn't want that to happen to (insert pet's name) now would we?"
Thanks for the great service, but I will go elsewhere next time.

Dr. Butler is the best Veterinarian I have ever had in my 45 years with showdogs. I was positively thrilled when she opened her practice in Vanier. It is an hour from my home, but I would travel any distance to receive the best care for my furry babies. My 12 year old baby had his teeth cleaned two weeks ago and a large sebaceous cyst removed from his flank. It was so well done that he never looked at it and it has healed wonderfully, and his teeth are super clean and shiny. My girl had her yearly physical and required shots. Both left the Veterinary Hospital happy. We will certainly return, so thrilled Dr. Butler is in Vanier.

The best part about having Dr. Butler as a vet is that my boys are actually feeling better!!
For the first time in years, they're looking & feeling healthier again.. which means I get to worry a lot less & enjoy caring for them and my time with them a lot more. :)
Prices are great, (especially when you consider how she did more for my cats in 1 visit than the previous 10 at other vets) and my only regret is that I didn't find this place sooner.
If you're like me and want the best possible care for your furry family members, I highly recommend Dr. Butler at Vanier Animal Hospital-- she is absolutely amazing!

I thought I would be overwhelmed with information. But she answered all my questions before I even asked them. She just routinely talks about all things that puppy owners would want to talk, so I felt she was so comfortable and experienced, knowing what owners would ask about. I really do believe she isn't doing this for money. She even gave me a tour of her clinic and the facilities.
Sweet doctor took her time with my appointment, happy to have found a vet for my shih tzu.

Dr Butler is fair priced and honest. She won't prescribe drugs when unnecessary and she will give you her honest and scientific opinion.
I always feel comfortable that she truly cares about my pet.

Dr. Butler cares for every creature that comes her way. She is incredibly knowledgeable, and wants to make sure her patients love a long and happy life. Can't do better than that :)

Just visited Vanier Animal Hospital and have to say Dr. Butler is by far the BEST vet ever! She is so knowledgeable and up to date on all treatments for animals. She truly takes the time to make the animals feel comfortable and offers amazing advice to help them stay healthy. One of my cats has seasonal allergies and she offers treatments that are easily done at home, are totally effective and save me thundreds of dollars and help my cat feel so much better!!. Truly a GEM to visit and my cats love her!! If you care about your animals and want the best possible care at the most reasonable rates, don't take them anywhere but Vanier Animal Hospital! You will be so happy you did and so will your pets.

I have had Kelly look after two of my cats in the last few years. She has been nothing but kind, honest and respectful.
My first cat was 22 years old when I brought her in to the Vanier Animal Hospital. Sadly, it was her first and last visit because she had severe kidney failure. After the appointment, Kelly personally drove me back to my house so that I wouldn't have to walk back home after having her put down.
My next cat was 11 years old with severe stomach issues. She took a lot of care into looking after him and suggesting alternatives to different medicines in order to help me save money. She even met up with me personally to give me some special cat food so that I wouldn't have to bus out to the vet. She also gave me multiple free canned food samples, did a free x-ray to find out if my cat had cancer, and offered to come to my house over the holidays to put my cat to sleep if he went downhill too quickly... after he passed away she personally met me for coffee to give me his ashes and check in on how I was doing.
I would trust Kelly with all my vet needs. I wont go anywhere else.

I've had many veterinarians take care of our cat over the course of years and dr. Butler is certainly in the top tier if not the best. She makes the most sense in her approach to treating animals, highly professionally and with a lot of respect and tenderness.
Some of the other comments posted earlier were critical of pricing and recommended treatments, but I need to say that she was cheaper than other clinics, never pushed a treatment, actually was always recommending against unnecessary/unhelpful actions, didn't charge for some of surgery costs, and - in a very dramatic situation - took care not only of our animal, but also of ourselves. Thank you so much!

One major issue I had was that Dr. Butler did not tell me how much her services were before performing them, which I'm pretty sure is illegal.
She even said "now, let's see what the damage is"
Now you know your being overcharged.
She is clearly a smart and cunning individual.
This gives her the ability to perform advanced sales tactics (consciously or unconsciously).
Example: She will state the costs associated to medical issues that your animal does not have yet, but that they "could" be at risk for unless preventative measures or treatments are performed.
This encourages you to spend money NOW in fear of having to spend over $2000 or $3000 LATER.
Some would call these fear tactics, others would call this being thorough.
Example 2: Up-Selling ; she may recommend another treatment or drug that is not fully necessary but will "relieve that nasty itch" that "your POOR cat is so clearly suffering from".
Dr. Butler: " I have even seen cats scratch their neck so much they tore open their jugular" followed with something like "and we wouldn't want that to happen to (insert pet's name) now would we?"
Thanks for the great service, but I will go elsewhere next time.

Dr. Butler is the best Veterinarian I have ever had in my 45 years with showdogs. I was positively thrilled when she opened her practice in Vanier. It is an hour from my home, but I would travel any distance to receive the best care for my furry babies. My 12 year old baby had his teeth cleaned two weeks ago and a large sebaceous cyst removed from his flank. It was so well done that he never looked at it and it has healed wonderfully, and his teeth are super clean and shiny. My girl had her yearly physical and required shots. Both left the Veterinary Hospital happy. We will certainly return, so thrilled Dr. Butler is in Vanier.
